Did you know that in 2000, 29% of our community lived in poverty?
What is it now?
Did you know Klickitat has been awarded a grant to reduce poverty and encourage opportunity?

You can help by joining the circle groups. Use your voice to create a thriving community.

How did we get this grant?

  • Klickitat Facts:
In October, five community members attended a spot light presentation in Goldendale. Cheryl Steindorf, Becky Moss, Rhonda
Vogt, Michele Bautista and Allie Spino
They felt a sense of encouragement that their Community in Klickitat” would benefit through
this Project. They set out to get 15 interested community members to support this. THEY DID BETTER! They got 30
signatures. Then they, along with the Community Council, wrote two essays about their community. Once they sent it in, It was
determined that Klickitat was selected along with 22 other rural communities in Washington.
    Who is Supporting us?
WSU Extension Horizons Project is Funded by a grant from the Northwest Area Foundation based in St. Paul, MD.
NWAF's mission is to fight poverty in rural communities in eight northern states.
The Horizons Project has successfully provided leadership resources to small communities experiencing economical and social change. Extension programs and employment are open to all without discrimination.
Evidence of such may be reported through the Goldendale Extension Office.

The next Study Circle is on Sunday, February 18th @ 4 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room located in the Klickitat School Gym.
I would like to thank everyone who believes in the inner HEART of Klickitat! It is our Home!
Thank You to every participant involved in our 1st of 4 Sessions of the Horizons Project Study Circles. The kick-off on January 21st, 2007 had a great turn out. Also there was an excellent donation given by Papa Murphy's Pizza in Hood River. Thank You!

The Study Circles consist of community members who discuss poverty. Brainstorming together they will create many diverse
ideas and by the 4th session they will begin to develop ways to create prosperity and unity within our town.
On January 21st, Klickitat developed five groups of diverse individuals (Youth, Adults, Ladies Auxillary Members, Church
Members, School Staff and Board Members, and Community CouncilMembers.)
There was lots ideas and new faces for some of us.
Some of our brainstorming ideas were: getting extra activities for youth and senior citizens, strengthening our community and
it's pride, the need for local law enforcement, welcoming newcommunity members, knowing our community has potential
for a tourist attraction, and many other ideas.

    Thanks~ Allie Spino
